Look ahead to the future of critical materials
How can the UK leverage global momentum to drive a circular economy? Join us for an interactive session where key stakeholders from the UK and other international jurisdictions will share insights, explore opportunities, and discuss the way forward.
This event is a great opportunity for you to have your say and feed into future priorities for standards and UK strategy - register below to join us on the day.
Key Topics
Insights generated from our recent international research Overview of IWA 45 for sustainable critical material supply chains International perspectives on standards priorities Perspectives on downstream and recycling Discussion on future priorities Speakers
Ben Russell, Engagement Manager, Mining sector, Standards Australia
Ben’s role is to manage and encourage engagement between consumers, government, industry and the standards development process, nationally and internationally. This includes assisting in the process of creating proposals for new standards and changes to existing ones, as well as continuously work with the community to help get the right stakeholders onto technical committees.
Dr Simon Strickland, Senior Adviser on Strategy and Head of Critical Minerals in the European and Global Issues Secretariat of the Cabinet Office.
Dr Simon Strickland also chairs expert BSI Committees on standards for Lithium and for the Rare Earth Elements.
Lorna Bennett, Senior Engineer – Sustainability, Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult
Lorna leads on delivery of research projects relating to sustainability and circular economy. She has led the development of the Circular Economy for the Wind Sector (CEWS) Joint Industry Programme to deliver research and aims to lay the foundations for a circular economy supply chain, enabling components and materials to be reused environmentally, economically and socially responsibly.

0The Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Workshop is a biennial event that focuses on advances in the science and technology of rare earth permanent magnets. It highlights recent developments in the design and implementation of high-performance permanent magnets for energy applications. The workshop will cover both fundamental materials research in academia and developments in industrial applications such as motors, generators, and actuators. It will also address issues of rare earth resources and magnet recycling to assess life cycle sustainability. Fundamental aspects of materials development will also include innovative computational methods such as machine learning and data-driven accelerated materials discovery, novel alloy design approaches, and advanced processing and characterization techniques. Proposals for alternative magnets without rare earth elements are also within the scope.
